Four Day School Week for 25-26

At last night’s meeting, the Board did just that, approving a four day school week, with Monday as the “off day". This was not a decision taken lightly.

After taking input from WISD administration, WISD faculty and staff members, parents, and community members, the Board asked for a survey to be completed by WISD faculty/staff members. The results of the survey showed that 94.7% of the staff wanted to move to a four day instructional week, and 66.7% of the WISD faculty/staff preferred to have Mondays as the off day to allow them to better prepare for the upcoming week of instruction.

Our goals with this move are very simple. First, to retain and recruit the very best people we can find to work with our kids. It has become increasingly difficult to find quality educators, a problem that is not exclusive to WISD. All indicators show this problem is only going to get worse, as more and more teachers look to leave the profession and college teacher preparation programs continue to see a decline in enrollment. Secondly, the move will allow our teachers the time needed to prepare to more effectively instruct our kids.

Approved 2025-2026 school calendar.
